General Information

The 40K event is a two-day, 6 games, 120-player Grand Tournament. This will take place on Saturday and Sunday. This is part of the National Tournament and will be given invites from Games Workshop for the Nationals in 2013.  The National tournament will be held at the end of the Indy GT season.

This is the 6th year we are running the 40k event. Last year we had 88 people come and play. We expect over 100 people to attend this year. Here are basic rules:

Armies will consist of 1850 points using the standard force organization chart. All codices are fully legal including chapter approved printed since 5th edition was released (example: night spinner).

The Warhammer 40,000 5th Edition Rules will be used.

Forge World/Imperial Armor units are not allowed, however, players may still use their Forge World models to represent a unit from their codex.

The Independent National Warhammer 40,000 Tournament FAQ V4.0 will be used.

How The Tournament Works
Competitors will participate in six (6) games over the course of the weekend. Four on Saturday and two on Sunday. In each game, you will play a scenario and record the outcome of the battle on your results sheet. Each round you will play a different opponent. Read more: Full event rules.
Counts as
Counts as models or army can be used, but they need to be modeled correctly. For example you can have a Ork boy play as a marine, but he needs to modeled correctly with a bolter or other wargear. One example that would not be allowed is an eldar falcon for an Ork truck. If there are any questions please email and send pictures of your models to daboyzgt.twentyeleven@gmail.com

Total 420

Painting matrix 70 points

Comp Matrix 110 points

This year we are using a two part comp system. The first part is a rubric that is worth 80 points and you are required a minimum score of 30 to attend this event. The second portion is a 30 point judge’s score that will be determined by committee. The matrix may be found here.

Missions 210 points

We are using the battle point system for our event. There will be preliminary and secondary objects in each mission. We believe this is best system because if you have one bad game of dice rolling you are still not out of winning the overall award. See the Downloads section for the missions.

Early List turn in 10 points

Army list needs to be turn in two weeks early. You will receive 10 points for doing this. The early list turn is for the comp judging and list verification. All lists need to be turned in by end of day on October 8th 2011

Sportsmanship
This year, at Da Boyz GT, we will be using a ranking system for sportsmanship to provide a more substantial score. All players will receive a sheet to record the opponent’s name, army and notes about each round’s opponent. After the last game each player will rank all of his opponents on a scale of 5pts (best sport) to 0pts (worst sport).  When you rank your opponents, you need to take into account anything and everything that happened during their game. Remember to evaluate the opponents, not the game result. Only one of your opponents could be the best sporting opponent.  One might argue, “What if two players are your best opponents or equally deserving of the highest mark?”  They aren't, you must dig deep, reflect upon your games, and figure out which is truly the best and the other second best.  There are no ties, there can be only one!  At this point the judges will add up all of the ranks to determine a score.
Theme

Last year was the first year that we gave this award out. Last year’s winner received a Forgeworld Ork Mek Mega Dread. This is an independent award which is not part of your GT Score and is determined by player votes.  This award is for players who go beyond “normal”.  For us, this award demonstrates some of the best parts of the game. This award is chosen by your fellow players. Here are some of the things to take into account when making your choice:

  • Booklet or handout for your opponents.
  • Costumes or other shirts or clothing.
  • Banner or some other type of display.
  • Display base.
  • Army song, theme drinks or something else that shows the theme of your army. For example, an Ork army which has dice with an ork heads in place of sixes.
  • Army appearance can relate to theme too. For example, a Chaos IG army which has chaos symbols and chains hanging off all their tanks.

Please note theme is different than composition. A very themed army can have a wide variety of composition scores. For example, Mechanical Guard can be a nicely themed army, but tends to receive fairly low composition scores due to repetition.

40K Prize Determination
  1. Overall Winner: will be determined by the addition of battle, composition, appearance, and sportsmanship scores.
  2. Best Opponent: will be determined by the addition of composition, appearance, and sportsmanship scores.
  3. Best General: will be based on the highest battle score and composition combined. Sportsmanship scoring will be used to break ties.
  4. Best Appearance: will be based on the highest appearance score. Sportsmanship scoring will be used to break ties.
  5. Best Sportsman: will be based on the highest sportsmanship. Composition scoring will be used to break ties.
  6. Best Theme: will be based on the army with best theme. This is a separate award and appearance scoring will be the tie breaker.
  7. Smoking' Boots (last place): will be given in the gamers' spirit to the gamer that may be young, inexperienced, or totally outclassed in the event. This player gave it everything that he had and came up short, but still smiled and stuck it out.

Also we will be giving out three prizes to the top tables again this year.  We always like to see nice gaming tables to play on. A lot the tables and scenery are donated by players. So the players will be picking their favorite tables they like to play on throughout the weekend.
